Advanced study in the history of traditional costumes of peoples

Course Description: This course, DESI521, is an advanced study of the history of traditional ethnic clothing, offered at the second year of the Master's in Fashion Design program with 2 credit hours. It covers traditional attire in Arab countries (Egypt, Turkey, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Morocco) and select foreign countries (China, Japan, India, European countries). The curriculum includes inherited embroidered motifs of all types, the distinctive decorative styles of these garments and their accessories, and the execution of a traditional women's outfit from one of the Arab or foreign countries.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to study traditional fashion patterns in various Arab countries and some foreign countries, including inherited embroidered decorations of all kinds, in addition to the distinctive decorative styles of those fashions and their accessories, with the preparation of an applied research for one of the countries and the implementation of traditional attire for women in that country.
