Introduction to Dental Hygiene

Course Description: The course is designed to describe the fundamental concepts, philosophy, and practice of dental public health and to provide in-depth knowledge of strategies for oral health and dental planning, education, and oral health care planning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the core philosophy and practice of dental public health.
2. Explore the scope of public oral health practice and apply this knowledge to current public oral health issues.
3. Defining primary health care and its implications for oral health care.
4. Mention the principles of health promotion and the various strategies for oral health promotion.
5. Recognizing the importance of oral health planning and evaluation.
6. Discuss the fundamental methods of health education, various priority groups, and barriers to effective health education.
7. Analyze current public health issues in the local, national, and global context and recommend a realistic plan to improve community health.
