Advanced Preventive Dentistry

Course Description: The Preventive Dentistry course provides an introduction to the philosophy and methods of oral disease prevention that can be applied at both individual and public health levels. The course emphasizes understanding the scientific basis of preventive measures and their judicious use, taking into account patient and community needs, as well as the efficacy and relative effectiveness of these measures. Throughout the course, students will learn and practice various techniques involved in the application of preventive agents used in dental practice and community dental care.
Credit hours: 4
Objectives of the course :

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Identify different levels of prevention.
2. Describe the role of fluoride in dental health and identify the different causes, risk factors, and indicators of fluoride poisoning.
3. Explanation of the use of pit and fissure sealants and professionally applied topical fluoride in the prevention of dental caries.
4. Recognizing different methods for treating progressive tooth decay (PRR & ART).
5. Explanation of methods for systemic fluoride application and differentiation between systemic and topical fluoride application methods.
6. Understand key strategies for preventing tooth decay and assessing risk. Professionally apply fluoride.
7. Application of fissure sealants
8. Progressive Caries Management (PRR & ART)
