The medical city at Qassim University performed its first obesity surgery. The surgery was carried out using advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and minimally invasive intervention through several very small incisions, which contributes to reducing post-operative pain, accelerating recovery, and decreasing the likelihood of complications compared to traditional surgeries.
The operation was performed by a team from the General Surgery department, specializing in minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopy for gastrointestinal surgeries and bariatric surgeries, led by Dr. Hatem bin Ahmed Al-Suleim, and the anesthesia team led by Dr. Mohammed bin Suleiman Aba Al-Khail, as part of an integrated work system.
Bariatric surgery is a treatment option for patients with obesity or its health complications, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, as well as bone and joint pain and stiffness. These surgeries also include corrective procedures for cases that have previously undergone bariatric surgery and suffer from complications such as weight regain, gastroesophageal reflux, or others, based on a comprehensive and integrated assessment of the medical condition.
The launch of this type of operation comes as part of Qassim University's keenness to develop its health and educational services, and to enhance the capabilities of the medical city in providing specialized health care in accordance with the latest medical practices.
