The Leadership and Capacity Development Center launches its second training program for new faculty members

Yesterday, Sunday, 06/08/1441 AH, the university, represented by the Leadership and Capabilities Development Center, launched the training program for new faculty members. The program will last for five days for men and women at the center's headquarters in the university city. Its aim is to prepare new faculty members for the university's work environment by familiarizing them with its resources and available potentials, and to train them on mastering the skill of planning, designing, and implementing teaching situations based on the principles of total quality, modern learning theories, and learning and education technology. Sixty faculty members of both sexes attended the launch.

This program is an extension of the "New Faculty Orientation" program, which was held for two days from 6/4-5/1441 AH, with the attendance of 26 faculty members of both genders. The two training programs included several themes: the scientific and practical tasks of a faculty member, regulations, procedures, and capabilities, formulating learning outcomes and their measurement tools, issues of university learning and teaching, as well as continuous improvement of university work, the faculty member's message and roles, formulating achievement tests, in addition to skills for dealing with the media, and the 4MAT natural learning cycle.

The two programs offered by the center also include a visual and applied presentation of "Blackboard," electronic skills in scientific research, as well as confirmation of the program quality system, theories of university learning and teaching, in addition to learning outcomes and university teaching quality, as well as effective university teaching skills (PBL), and micro-teaching sessions according to specialization.

The University Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, Professor Dr. Khalid Bani Al-Harbi, spoke during the program's opening about the importance of the active role of faculty members at the university level and its significant impact on activating the three axes that are at the core of faculty members' work: teaching, scientific research, and community service. He noted the role of the Leadership and Capabilities Development Center through orientation and preparation programs for new faculty members, which contribute to raising awareness among members and developing their teaching, research, and professional capabilities and skills.

Al-Harbi explained that the role of the University Agency for Planning, Development, and Quality concerns these three interconnected loops: planning, development, and quality. He indicated that the male and female trainees play a role in supporting the development wheel of these loops and offering suggestions that contribute to charting the university's 2025 strategic plan. He welcomed all suggestions for development and improvement that will contribute to increasing the efficiency and quality of work and outcomes at the university, which could potentially increase the university's productivity, especially with the approval of the new university system that aligns with the university's aspirations to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

For his part, Dr. Mune' bin Mohammed Al-Mune', the General Supervisor of the Center for Leadership and Capacity Development, explained that the two programs offer several mechanisms of interest to faculty members, including field visits to various sites such as the main university library and some vital facilities, in addition to training on planning and designing for teaching and effective teaching skills, and practical training through scenarios on methods and ways of dealing with students, discussing some educational and learning issues and some problems facing faculty members, as well as discussions about the faculty member's mission and roles.

Al-Mane" emphasized the university's keenness, under the directives of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, the University President, and the University Agency for Planning, Development, and Quality, on the necessity of holding two programs: one specializing in preparing new faculty members, and the other focusing on developing their capabilities and honing their skills. The Center for Developing Leadership and Capabilities has worked to implement this direction by developing the orientation and preparation programs to encompass the various functional, research, teaching, and community service roles of a faculty member, as evident from the training outcomes and themes of both programs.
