His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, chaired the Supreme Student Committee meeting at the university last Tuesday, corresponding to 1/7/1441 AH, in the presence of the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Aqlah, who at the beginning of the meeting presented a report on all the topics that were presented at the previous meeting and how they were addressed.
During the meeting, a number of topics and proposals presented by university students were discussed on the agenda. The esteemed University President emphasized that this committee was established to achieve positive outcomes regarding the issues presented to it, noting that students are partners in decision-making. His Excellency congratulated the students on their achievements in the period since the last meeting until this meeting, at various local and international levels, which are a source of pride for all university staff. He highlighted the significant progress made in the transition from rented buildings to new buildings in the governorates of Unaizah and Ar Rass, thanks to God and the support the university receives from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them.
The committee discussed the advantages of e-courses. They also discussed allowing graduates access to the university website after graduation. The university president noted the existence of a special office for connecting alumni, utilizing the library and various services. Additionally, the relocation of some colleges to new buildings, ongoing projects, and absence rates were discussed. The president explained that the issue of absence rates was raised in the university council, and the council did not approve it after a vote by members. After reviewing the first semester report, an increase in discipline and output was observed, indicating that the decision was correct.
The committee discussed the transition of the language of instruction at the College of Economics and Management to English, and providing meals at late hours. In this regard, His Excellency suggested the idea of establishing mobile food carts service students during late hours. This was in addition to investing university facilities and addressing several related topics, which were answered. His Excellency also emphasized holding this meeting again in a month with the participation of the Supervisor General of Projects and the Dean of Admissions and Registration to answer students' questions regarding buildings, projects, admissions, and registration.
The University's Supreme Student Committee aims to engage male and female students in discussing student issues, recognizing their rights and responsibilities, as well as participating in decision-making. It also discusses topics referred to the Supreme Committee by sub-committees in colleges, follows up on the implementation of its decisions, and addresses student issues submitted by students to their deans that are deemed appropriate for the Council's consideration.
