The university, represented by the College of Engineering, is preparing to host its international conference titled: «Solar Energy Prospects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Applications and Challenges,» which will be held remotely from 24-25/4/1442 AH, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Qassim Region.

A number of senior academics and researchers in solar energy applications, and industry experts from Saudi Arabia and around the world are participating in this conference. The objective is to exchange expertise in this field, identify the most prominent challenges it faces and reach outcomes and solutions to confront these challenges. Additionally, the conference will explore ways to enhance and develop promising solar energy technologies to support and achieve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. It will also contribute to achieving the goals of Vision 2030 in diversifying the economy, which is currently based on oil, to transform the Kingdom from a leading oil exporting country to a sustainable energy exporting country, of which solar energy is one of its most prominent and important sources.

The conference addresses the latest developments in solar energy technologies and applications, including, for example: solar thermal, photovoltaic, and solar architecture. Conference participants will focus on how solar energy engineering can be used in various applications within academic, governmental, and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and benefit from past experiences in this vital field in a number of countries around the world.

The conference events and sessions revolve around a number of themes that cover all aspects of harnessing and investing solar energy. These include generating electricity using solar energy, storing it, and its uses in water desalination, as well as solar heating and cooling applications, passive and active solar applications on buildings, in addition to a theme on solar energy applications in transportation, and the management of this clean energy source in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This conference aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to support the national economy, reduce reliance on oil, and raise awareness of the importance of solar energy as an abundant source of renewable energy in the Kingdom, thereby supporting the shift towards sustainable sources of clean energy.
